Why does the date of Easter change every year?
Unlike fixed-date holidays, Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring (vernal) equinox, a rule set by the Council of Nicaea in 325 CE. Because it depends on lunar cycles rather than a fixed calendar date, Easter can land anywhere between March 22 and April 25 depending on the year.
How is the date calculated?
This calculator uses the standard algorithm (sometimes called the "computus") for determining the Gregorian calendar date of Easter, which accounts for the cycles of the moon and the solar calendar to produce the correct date automatically for any given year.
