Bag footprint definition
A bag footprint refers to a form of describing the environmental effects of a bag during its lifetime - including extractions of raw materials, manufacturing, use and end-of-life disposal or recycling. It takes the notion of a footprint (as in carbon footprint) and broadens it out to all the environmental pressures that a single type of bag may have: greenhouse-gas emissions, energy and water consumption, land use, pollution and litter, resource depletion and waste management overheads. A bag footprint makes designers, policymakers and consumers think about actual world effects of various types of bags materials and usage habits, as opposed to the easy judgments such as paper is better than plastic.
